safety tips

                                              FOR EMERGENCIES, DIAL 911

*  Plan and practice a fire escape from your home.  Plan 2 ways out.  Designate a meeting place for everyone to meet once you are out of the building.

*  STOP, DROP & ROLL - If your clothing catches on fire, running will only fan the flames.  Stop, drop to the ground and roll over and over, smothering the flames.

*  Never start a woodstove or fireplace fire by using flammable liquids such as gasoline!!!

*  Never use water to put out a grease fire.  It will only spread the flames.

*  If in a smoke and/or heat filled environment, get on the floor and crawl.  Stay low!!!  Smoke and heat rise, so staying low will increase your chances of breathing better air while exiting.

*  If you are in a fire situation, feel any doors prior to opening them.  If it is hot, DO NOT OPEN IT.  The fire could be just on the other side.

*  Keep combustibles away from heat sources.

*  Change your clocks....change your smoke alarm batteries (CO2 detectors also).  And, never remove the batteries from your alarms.  We have responded to many fires and after the fire is out, we have found smoke alarms in place, but the battery has been removed.  No battery....no good.

*  Do not use the phone during lightning storms.  You can be struck.

*  Stay away from windows during storms.

*  Never burn outdoors on windy days.  Also, in the spring or very dry weather, do not burn.  Wait until it rains.

*  Always make sure that your outdoor fire is out before you leave.

*  DON'T DRINK & DRIVE !!!!!!

*  Post your address so that it is clearly seen from the road!!!   Large numbers on the house, numbers on your mailbox, an address sign, etc.  Just make sure that it is visible from the road.  Just giving your address to 911 will not help us much if your address is not marked where we can see it.              We can't help you if we can't find you.
